Utah Trip | The Trost Family 2014 Pumpkin Carving Night

Every year my dad plants a bunch of pumpkins in his garden. Then one night in October everyone gets together and, he brings whatever has grown for the grandkids (and all their parents) to carve. We aren’t always in Utah for this tradition but definitely love participating when we are! 🙂

The grandkids all have a lot of fun selecting their pumpkin, choosing their design, etc.

This year, Titan decided to go with a Sonic design. Shocking, right?! In the picture above he is describing to Broc how it should all go down…

And while Broc and Ti carved their pumpkin and I took photos, Chayse hung out with her Uncle Conner (my brother).

The carving and everyone’s moods started off great, but as the night went on Titan actually became frustrated with Broc and kept telling him that his Sonic wasn’t perfect. We reminded him that, just like we’ve discussed MANY times before, nothing is perfect and his response was that he knows that but he wants like 90% and dad was only giving him 80%. He also said, “Isn’t Dad like a surgeon sometimes? I thought he was supposed to be good at this type of stuff.” LOL

That conversation led to a whole bunch of jokes from my family about how I would need to add in the hashtags #eightypercent and #surgeonfail to any photo I posted on Instagram. (Speaking of which, if you aren’t already following me on Instagram, what are you waiting for?!) 😉

Around that same time, this girl also decided that she was done for the night and ready for her nap. Poor thing just wasn’t quite used to being around so many people yet.

In the end though, everything turned out just right when Titan was able to see the candle in the pumpkin and get a lesson on positive and negative space and reverse images and all of that fun stuff. 🙂 I’d say that’s a pretty good Sonic considering it was all done free hand and from Broc and Titan’s memory!

And here are all of the pumpkins from the evening! It’s always so fun to see everyone’s designs and personalities revealed in their pumpkin!
