Every year my dad plants a bunch of pumpkins in his garden. Then one night in October everyone gets together and, he brings whatever has grown for the grandkids (and all their parents) to carve. We aren’t always in Utah for this tradition but definitely love participating when we are! 🙂

The grandkids all have a lot of fun selecting their pumpkin, choosing their design, etc.

This year, Titan decided to go with a Sonic design. Shocking, right?! In the picture above he is describing to Broc how it should all go down…

december is here! hooray! it truly is the most magical time of the year. i only wish i could slow it down just a little bit. i know all too well that it will go by way too fast for my liking.

i am determined to savor each moment of this christmas season though no matter how fast it flies by and so i have been ever so carefully scrutinizing my to do list and deleting anything that isn’t of utmost importance the past few days. anyone else feel like their to do list can get way too long lately?

i’ve actually found that the only time i become really overwhelmed or christmas crazed is when i’m trying to keep up with a glorified ideal of some sort. ie. when i’m trying to keep up with martha stewart or any number of well known bloggers in the blogosphere of seemingly perfect housekeeping, crafting & entertaining. so i’ve kept that in mind as i look over my to do list. i ask myself “do i really want to make time for that, or i am i just trying to keep up with something or someone?”

in all truth, ultimately the main go to question has become, “it is inspiring me? or is it weighing me down?” if it’s not inspiring you, it’s not for you! has become my motto. move on to something that does motivate and inspire you. so what if your cookies are store bought this year or you don’t send out a christmas card? do what inspires you and throw the rest of the list away. we all have different talents and we need to learn to embrace those talents and run with them instead of trying to be like everyone else. decide what matters most to you this season, and stick to that without looking back.

now some of you regular readers may have noticed the absence of both something to talk about & what i wore this week in my posting. i am here to say they are gone for now, but don’t you worry, they will be back soon (probably!). i’ve had some thoughts about both of those weekly posts and will be revamping them for the new year (most likely!). i hope i’ll be breathing some new life into them?! here’s crossing my fingers all the ideas in my head all come together! both posts were mainly put on hold because i decided that for december i didn’t want to follow a schedule of any sort with my blog (remember, i’m keeping to my priorities and sitting at this computer really isn’t one of them this month). i basically just didn’t want to worry about documenting each and every outfit or about holding a link party each monday. i want to enjoy this month and write when i want. so if you are looking for those, please come back by in january! although i do hope you’ll stick around for this month as well. i promise i will still be posting content all month long, it’ll just be different. different is good, right?

ps. am so excited for titan to get his first chocolate from his advent calendar tonight (pictured above). my dad would always buy these for myself and my siblings when we were little and now he buys them for all the grandkids. so so fun! i love this tradition and hope it continues for years to come! i mean what isn’t to love about a tradition that involves counting down to christmas AND chocolate! 🙂
