A couple years ago we took Titan to see a Disney on Ice show in Denver and every few months since he has been asking to go to another one.
I finally got my act together and looked online to see when their next show was this last time he asked. I lucked out and found out that one was coming here to Colorado Spring at the beginning of April. After discussing it with Broc, we decided to surprise Titan with a mini date night out with me to see Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Magic at the World Arena.
I had planned on telling him about it a couple days before the show, but life got crazy with Spring Break and I actually totally forgot all about it until the night before. It was definitely a lot of fun telling him where he got to go the next night!
Here are some pictures from our mini “date night”:

I had no idea how large or small the World Arena was and so I had no clue if we had decent seats or not. Come to find out, our seats were actually pretty great! 🙂

It’s a small world!

The little man was a little somber during the first half because it was mostly princesses… (I did catch him singing along a time or two though – and he did enjoy all the parts with Mickey!)

We grabbed some cotton candy and a Mickey Crown at intermission though and he perked right up! He asked for cotton candy and I had no idea it came with a crown as well. Of course, for $12.00…I would hope it would come with more than just the cotton candy! 😉

Ti checking out the Zamboni as it cleared the ice during intermission. He was fascinated by it.
We also enjoyed splitting a sprite and jumbo pretzel. This momma was needing some food and luckily my little date and I have very similar tastes in food. 🙂

After intermission, things picked up and it was a little more Titan’s style. We both really liked the Mulan section!

…and some fireworks are always fun too!
Overall it was such a fun night and I’m so glad we surprised Titan with the night out. We are really trying lately to focus our spending on memories and not things. 🙂 Titan is already asking when we get to go again, so I guess this was a good memory!

Now to prep for our Disney World trip coming up in 4 1/2 weeks…

we have a new favorite show around our house. it’s word world on pbs kids!  i love this show so much it’s getting it’s own post! here are just a few of the reasons i like word world:

  • it teachings spelling and reading
  • it teaches things like sharing, helping & caring
  • my son is mesmerized by it!
  • it has i think around 30 episodes available for instant viewing on netflix (which is nice, i can handle rotating through 30 episodes!)
  • …and did i mention it’s pretty cute and totally 2 yr. old appropriate?
i wish i could say that my son has never been exposed to anything like sponge bob square whomever or even spider man and the old school teenage mutant ninja turtle, but he has.
if we lived in a bubble and i had it my way, my 2 year old would still not even know who spider man is, but we don’t live in a bubble and so i try to encourage other shows when i can and have a plethora of “appropriate” options available for him that don’t include fighting, high ya’ing and overall inappropriate behavior. anyone who says kids don’t know what they are watching needs to come see my two year old run up to me, yell “ninja!” and then try to karate chop me! yep, that happened… and i have a viewing of teenage mutant ninja turtles to thank for that one! honestly? really? a two year old shouldn’t even know the word ninja!
this is why i love shows like word world. shows that teach my toddler to share. shows that teach him about letters and words and shapes. shows that are positive, fun and bright. shows that keep my two year old a two year old!
i know i can’t control every thing my son is exposed to but i sure am going to control what i can! i think nowadays kids are already growing up way too fast, faster than they need to be and i think part of it is our fault as parents. we don’t want to listen to one more sing-a-long with barney and so we try to talk them into a show we’d rather watch. shows that probably aren’t very age appropriate. let’s let our kids be kids! let’s let our babies be babies for as long as we can!
i am definitely trying to be more mindful of what ti is watching (i got a little lazy for a while and gave in on some things, but the ninja chop was a BIG wake up call!) and thankfully, shows like world world give me options that are appropriate and even educational. thank you, thank you pbs kids!
here is a clip of world world i found on you tube:
ps. we have watched all our episodes on netflix, but i know it is still on the regular tv line up as well. you can find what time is plays in your area over at pbs kids! happy watching!

(his blue steel face ~ zoolander)
this is purely a selfish and indulgent post. last thursday i had finally had it with my little man’s hair. it had been months since his last haircut and weeks of me saying “you need a haircut like yesterday”. i just kept putting it off and thinking – it can go one more day or one more week. ha ha.
so i called trusty cookie cutter’s on thursday when i finally could not stand the craziness of his hair anymore, and set up an appointment for right after work. 15 minutes after arriving, a balloon, and a small price to pay for a happy haircut, we were on our way home. i forget how quick and easy it is. ps – plug for cookie cutters. they are fabulous. i believe they are worth every penny. my little man loves going there. i know. i know. why pay when you can do it yourself? well…
 a) he can watch a show, he gets a balloon, & he gets to drive his own airplane or car  – doesn’t have all that home
b) i’m ocd about hair
c) i don’t want the hassle/stress of trying to do it myself
d) i’m not a fan of just buzzing boys bald or super short (at least not on my little boy) &
e) did i mention i’m ocd about hair? there is a reason they have cosmetology schools. just a philosophy of mine.
i am so happy i finally took him in. i really should be doing it every 8 weeks (it’s been over three months). i love it when i can style it and gel it.
the best part though – when we got home and i went to get him out of his car seat, he had found the blue sucker that was attached to the balloon (mommy forget all about the sucker) and had taken it out of it’s wrapper and was going to town. i got a good laugh, took him inside, put him in his bouncer so he was contained, and let him finish. yum yum! blue stickiness everywhere. i just had to take pictures.
my blue baby! i love him!
